I have been looking for a simple yet precise description framing the inextricable bond between "success" and "endeavour". When I was a kid, I used to believe that endeavor and faith are the two sole ingredients in the recipe of success. After I had grown up, I started realizing that success is also entwined with randomness. There was a period in my life that I was bombarded by consecutive and unexpected failures. Most of these failures stemmed from external factors beyond my control, including but not limited to competition, politics, change in macro environment etc. To me, those failures appeared to be one of the most unfair treatments a man could possibly bear, especially to those who have desperately strived for decent outcomes that can match their devotion. Those failures are just like tantalizing pranks crafted by merciless god to toy with humans, reprehending those who conceive themselves capable of defying the omnipresence. After a while of disoriented rumination in gloom, I started realizing that our fate was to some degree destined, as if it were a plot written by an all-knowing writer. Like any other plot, characters have the freedom to choose the path they want to advance at the crossroads of their fate. Nevertheless, the choice of the characters can unlikely rewind the comedic or tragic nature of a story, which has been settled by a writer before the debut of any plot development. In other words, the characters still possess certain degree of autonomy in steering their fate, though within a rigid framework.
