Taiwanese singer Jay Chou is no stranger to fusing Chinese and Western music styles to compose chart-topping mandopop hits. Well-known as a gifted composer, Chou single-handedly penned every song on his 10 studio albums. His 2000 debut album ‘Jay’ took away Best Album honours at the Golden Melody Awards in Taiwan, followed by five awards (including Best Album, Best Composer and Best Producer) the following year for his second album, ‘Fantasy’. From 2004 to 2008, he was awarded the title of Best Selling Artist in China by the coveted World Music Awards.
The singer-songwriter has also gone into film, clinching Best Newcomer Actor in both the Hong Kong Film Awards and the Golden Horse Awards in 2005 for his debut in Initial D. Jay’s breakthrough to the U.S. market was in The Green Hornet, which earned him a nomination for Best Breakthrough Performance at the 2011 MTV Movie Awards.
