Raymond Lam Fung, 29, is already an A-lister on local television, having starred in more than 20 Cantonese dramas, including the highly popular The Drive of Life (2007) and Moonligh Resonance (2008). The actor, however, says singing is his true passion. Next week Lam will finally realise hise dream with debut concert at the Coliseum.
When did you first get hooked on music?
Music is what I have truly loved isnce I was a child. My singing teacher inspired me the most. And like many young people my age, I grew up listening to Jacky Cheung Hok-yau's hit songs; he is my all-time favourite singer. I also studied music at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music.
if music is your first love, why didn't you start off as a singer?
When I was 16, I was approached by a record label but at the time I was too young and I needed to continue my studies. A few years later when I was ready to begin a career in music, the indstry was being hit hard by music piracy, so I chose acting to kick-start my career. Gradually, acting has become my other strength and given my career a solid foundation. Honestly, I hadn't dreamed about staging my own concert for years.
Your concert is opening in less than a week. How are you feeling right now?
I have seen a lot of other people's concerts, but now it is finally my turn. I am anxious, excited, scared and ecstatic at the same time, but I am not going to let my feelings affect my performance. I want to show people what my true passion is about on that stage.
Why are you calling your show "Let's Get Wet"?


Summer is coming and it is the season that people associate with the sun and beaches, so we adopted water as our main theme. We will build a pool and runway on the stage. Hopefully, people will join me, dance with me and get wet.
Your stage outfit will be a highlight of the concert. We heard that you are going to wear a thong on stage. Is that true?
Well, the outfit   is only part of the show to fit the theme of the concert, but we are not trying to sell sex or anything. But yes, I want to bring an unseen side of me to the audience as opposed to my usual good guy image from television.
You have released two albums in the past two years with a total of 20 songs. Some doubt your ability to stage a three-hour show. How would you respond to that?
I have just finished recording my third album and I will be performing some new songs at this concert. And apart from singing my own love ballads, I will also sing some of my favourite songs by other people and some by the guest singers. So, there are plenty of songs to choose from but I am not going to give away the song list until concert night.
How do you balance your time between acting and singing?
There is no such thing as "balancing your time" if you are a teelvision actor. Of course, because of this concert, I am delegating more of my time for rehearsals and practice, but usually I spend most of my time on set. I am on call 24/7.
You were born in Xiamen in Fujian province. Your property investor father has been dubbed the "Li Ka-shing of Xiamen" and your grandfather is also a former official in the area. Has your family's wealth and status had an impact on your career?


My family and my work are separate. If they were not and I received help as rumours suggest, I would have become an instant star. In my decade-long career, I went through all the steps that every actor goes through, starting with working as an extra without lines...in some of my early roles, my face wasn't shown. My breakthrough came only a year or two later. It was the first movie in which I had several lines to read, playing a mainland prison guard in At the Threshold of an Era (1999). They picked me only because I could speak Putonghua well.
But didn't you make a deal with your father that you would go home and help out with his business when you turn 30, which is only a couple of months away?
It ws a deal I made with my dad when I was 20 years old because he thought I wasn't serious about acting and I am the eldest son, so naturally he wanted me to inherit his business. But now, he understands that I am not joking around; I am passionate about what I do. And seeing me doing better and better, gaining recognitiona dn striving fro my own success, my whole family is happy for me. I don't think I have to keep my promise, which is a good thing because I never thought I would make a good businessman

问：你第一次迷上音乐是什么时候？
答：我是孩子的时候就真的很喜欢音乐，我的音乐老师经常鼓励我，像大多数和我一样年纪的年轻人一样，我是听着张学友的歌长大的，他一直是我最喜欢的歌手，我也曾经在上海音乐学院学习过声乐。
问：如果音乐是你的first love, 那你为什么不一开始就做歌手呢？
峯：我十六岁的时候，我接触过一张唱片，但那时候我太小了需要继续学习，几年后当我准备要开始做音乐的时候，唱片产业因为盗版的问题一落千丈，所以我选择了演戏，渐渐的，演戏成为我的另外一个长处也给我的事业一个坚实的基础。坦白说，我已经很多年没有梦想过举办自己的音乐会了。
你的舞台服装是演唱会关注的一个焦点，我们听说你会穿thong （大概意思就是T—back），真的么？
峯：服装只是配合演唱会的主题的一部分啦，但我们不是为了耍性感之类的，当然，我会把我平常不太同于电视上的乖仔的形象，这一面展示给观众。
 
在过去的两年时间，你已经出了两张唱片，一共是20首歌，有些人怀疑你能不能撑住三小时的演唱会，你怎么回应？
峯：我刚录完第三张专辑，在演唱会上也会唱些新歌，除了唱我自己的歌曲，我也会唱一些我喜欢的歌手的歌曲，还会和嘉宾合唱。所以，很多歌曲可以选，当然，不到演唱会当晚我不会泄露歌单的~~
 
你怎么平衡演戏和唱歌的时间呢？
峯：如果你是个电视演员的话，其实根本没有什么平衡时间的话，当然，因为演唱会，我把更多的时间用来排练，但我过去一直都是把时间花在拍剧上，我24小时随叫随到？（这句不太会，可能是夸张的说法）
你的演唱会还有不到一个星期就要开了，你现在感觉怎么样？
峯：我看过很多其他艺人的演唱会，但现在终于轮到我啦，我很紧张，很兴奋，但同时也很惊喜，但我不会让我的情绪影响我的表演的，我想要在舞台上展示给人们我真正的激情。
你出生在福建的厦门，你爸爸被称为厦门的李嘉诚，你的祖父也曾是一个军官，你家里的财富和地位对你的事业有影响么？
峯：我的事业和家庭是分开的，如果我像谣言说的一样我是靠关系的，那我直接就可以成为明星了。在我十年的演艺生涯中，我和所有的演员一样，从跑龙套做起，在一些早期的剧集里，我都看不到脸，大概一两年后我才有了突破，第一部有几句台词的是在创世纪中演一个大陆的狱警，他们选我只是因为我国语讲的比较好。
 
但是你难道没有和你父亲约定过30岁的时候会回家族打理生意？现在只剩几个月的时间了
 
那是我20岁的时候和父亲的一个约定，那个时候他认为我并不是真的会专注于演戏，而且我是长子，所以很自然的他想要我继承家业，但是现在，他也理解我绝不是在玩笑，我对我所做的事业非常的认真。家人看到我做的越来越好，对我的成绩的认可，他们都很高兴。我不一定非要坚持我的承诺，因为我从来不认为我会是一个成功的商人。
